Immersion Days

Tomorrow I head out to parts unknown for Immersion Days!! The point is to experience life with rural Salvadorans, like those we will be working with in our permanent sites. So all by myself, I get to navigate the national bus system (with a fiver in my pocket to give to the maras in case the bus gets robbed) to Sonsonate where I will stay with a family I have never met and learn about their lives. One of the scariest/best parts of this whole experience has been how we keep getting thrown in there. It´s absolutely terrifying when they tell me, "Tomorrow your assignment is to find a farmer and work with him in the field." But it´s absolutely thrilling when I discover that I can DO IT!! I am really excited to get out there and do something, except that I´m battling my first proper Salvadoran illness and I feel pretty awful. But at least it´s not The Dengue (I think). We had a fun health session on The Dengue yesterday. Symptoms include the feeling that your eyes are exploding from your head and the sensation that all the bones in your body are breaking. Two people in my group of 28 have gotten it already.
Oh! I have to go! We´re all going to a bar!! I can´t BELIEVE it!!!!
