Island Hopping
We are in Mykonos now, after hopping from Kusadasi to Samos. Mykonos is out of control. We got in at 1am and everything was still open. A few older couples were walking home from dinner, but everyone else was out. Tonight is the Full Moon Party so that should be cultural. And it's so beautiful. By law, every house is painted white with blue trim and there aren't even any stoplights, because that would disturb the vibe.
I miss Kusadasi and our Turkish family. In fact everyone in Turkey felt like family. Just about everyone on the main drag of Kusadasi knew us. It is practically impossible to smile at someone and not be invited to sit and have an apple tea. It's such amazing hospitality. And I literally can't make eye contact with anyone without being told what beautiful eyes I have. You'd think I might get over that, but I can't get enough!
Ephesus was fantastic. Walking and sitting where St Paul and St John walked and sat as they wrote parts of the Bible were fascinating. The presence of history was palpable.
Samos was gorgeous. We met a fantastic local, Prodromos. He took us around the island, playing guide. We got to ask him every dumb question we had about whether life was like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." He took us to all these local historical places and for dinner we went to a small place over the ocean and had a whole table full of mezes. Oh, and the wine! It was an amazing time. It was very through the back door. Rick Steves would be proud.
The seven hour ferry to Mykonos was a blast. There was a bar, several lounges, and a discoteca. We spent this morning in Delos (birthplace of Apollo and Artemis) and now we are headed to the beach! I am OCD about my SPF 45 sunscreen and I'm already so tan. I bet it's raining in Seattle. Not to rub it in or anything.
