Delirious with happiness
Today was sublime. We went on the Cinque Terre ass-kicking hike. It goes along the ocean through all five towns. It is supposed to take 5 hours, so we decided to do it in 10. And we did! We shopped, ate, drank, and enjoyed every single town! We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in Vernazza and people watched as the town set up for the day. Our lunch was fresh anchovies, a baguette, perfect plums, vegetables, and the best wine ever that the lady pulled out from behind the counter without a label or a cork. We ate it on a bluff in Corniglia. Didn't think it could get any better until we got to Riomaggiore and got breathtaking pesto on focaccia. Then off to Manorola where I got some perfect latte gelato. We found our happy place in Manorola. It was the best, cheap, best bar ever on a cliff over the ocean. It was pure delirium! Then to Monterosso where we got more wine, more pesto, and perfect chocolate and sat on the beach and watched the sunset and waited for our train to whisk us back home to Vernazza. Now we're all gussied up and are heading out on the town. Just pure blissful beautiousness!!
And in Rome we saw the Pope! I forgot about that! He was out on the town in his Popemobile and we saw him give a sermon in about seven different languages. I kind of understood the Spanish one. It was soooo cool.
